A dream you can join…
There are many ways you can support the Welsh Highland Railway to keep the dream alive. Whilst the railway has been rebuilt from Caernarfon to Porthmadog, there’s plenty left to do to finish the job.
Membership
One of the best ways you can keep the dream alive is by joining it. The Society has members worldwide from all walks of life. In addition to the satisfaction of supporting the railway for future generations, you can benefit from a range of benefits including complimentary travel, access to members-only events and behind-the-scenes tours, and a high-quality quarterly magazine.
Volunteer
There’s a lot of work involved in keeping the wheels turning on Britain’s longest heritage railway. From engine crews and track gangs, to stewards and even elves, there are a wide range of roles to get stuck into. Whether you’ve got skills and experience you’d like to bring, or if you want to learn something entirely new, there’s something for everyone.
Donate
The society has completed a number of project since it was established in 1992 from conserving buildings and building news ones, to restoring steam locomotives and constructing luxurious Pullman carriages. Each carriage costs upwards of £200k and restoration of a steam locomotive up to one-million pounds. The generosity of our members and supports has been pivotal in bringing the dream to life; every penny counts.

- Recycle your old print cartridges and donate to the society by signing up with our partner Recycle4Charity.
- Do you have old clothes or rags taking up space? Our loco operating department get through a phenomenal amount of rag to keep our unique fleet of locomotives in top condition. Donation of materials is warmly welcome to any of the railways’ booking offices or directly to Boston Lodge or Dinas.
