Keep the dream alive

The Society was established with the aim of supporting the resurrection of the Welsh Highland Railway (Welsh: Rheilffordd Eryri), and now supports the railway’s upkeep and development. The railway is regarded as one of Britain’s most spectacular rail journeys with marvellous engineering and breath-taking scenery hard to find anywhere else.
The railway has a complicated history dating back to the 1820’s, but ended up closing in the 1930’s and being dismantled. The Welsh Highland Railway has been brought back to life and is now the longest UK heritage railway taking passengers on an incredible journey from coast-to-coast through some of Snowdonia’s most stunning scenery.
Members and supporters of the Society have been pivotal in the rebirth of the Welsh Highland Railway since 1992 when the Society was established, and have enabled the Society to carry out a vast range of preservation and improvement projects on the railway. Some of these projects include:
The Society also supports the railway through the recruitment of volunteers, and the organisation of working parties undertaking a wide range of work from locomotive restoration to events co-ordination and trackwork.
Becoming a part of the society is open to everyone, regardless of whether they’re interested in railways. So why not join us, and help keep the dream alive?
