The K1 group are responsible for the general upkeep of the locomotive. They look after winter maintenance and any improvements to its operation.
As money continues to be spent on K1 while she is in service, monetary contributions to the K1 Fund are still invited and welcomed. For more details of the appeal please download the K1 Leaflet. Making donations under Gift Aid will enable the Welsh Highland Railway Society, a registered charity, to increase your gift by reclaiming the Basic Rate tax you have paid to the Inland Revenue. It is acceptable to make your Gift Aid Declaration after making the donation. All donation cheques, under Gift Aid or otherwise, should be made payable to "WHRS K1 Appeal" and sent to Ian McKenzie, Mayfield, Butt Lane, Harbury, Leamington Spa CV33 9JL.

2009 was the centenary of K1. The K1 Group of the WHRS are very much looking forward to her second century of operation, and have launched an appeal to raise funds over the next few years from supporters old and new, to keep K1 steaming. The K1 Group works closely with the WHR locomotive staff to maintain the engine in good condition, and are looking ahead to what will be needed after the current project to equip headlamps and lighting generator is completed. The water tanks are the originals, as is the coal bunker, and they will reach the end of their useful life in the not too distant future. With that in mind a start is being made on gathering estimates for replacements, and also to plan for the eventual 10-year boiler overhaul.
The K1 group have produced a leaflet (PDF format) showing how supporters may help and it can be downloaded via the link on the left.
as a final incentive, donors giving £8 per month for 5 years under Gift
Aid join the "K1 Centenary Club" whose members will be invited to join
a special private K1 hauled train when the railway is fully open.
